Did you know that in August the Carnival is celebrated in Sardinia? The summer carnival is that of Maskaras in Muravera, in the province of Cagliari.
Muravera is one of the most representative centers of Sarrabus and is an area made up of vast Mediterranean spots and beaches with crystal clear sea, all softened by mountain profiles.

This is an unusual event that shows groups of masks typical of Sardinia, especially from the north, such as Mamuthones and Issohadores of Mamoiada, Boes and Merdules of Ottana,  Sos Tamburinos of Gavoi.

The masks that parade are tragic, dark masks that move with a cadenced step to the rhythm of the cowbells.

The parade runs along the main street of the village to the rhythm of dances that evoke the propitiatory rites of life in the fields.

Mamuthones of Samugheo are distinguished by the headgear, covered with goat wool and large horns, Sos Thurpos of Orotelli are dressed like the farmers of the past: this is to resume the traditions and customs typical of their areas.

Maskaras is one of the biggest events in Sardinia and attracts tourists on holiday in these places, for its originality and spectacularity.
