You will leave Florence by a private minivan towards the aristocratic Volterra. Once arrived, you will start the guided tour by reaching the top of the medieval city walls. From here, your sight will jump on the expanse of round hills surrounding the city. And on clearer days you can even see Corsica.
Within a 5-minute walk, you will find yourself in front of the magnificence of the Arco Etrusco (Etruscan Arch), a door erected 2300 years ago: one of the two still standing in the whole world. Some more steps through the alleys and little squares and you will be seated in one of the best preserved roman theatres in Italy. Then, you will go back to the medieval heart of the old town centre. Down the narrow streets, behind the stone façades of turred houses and roman churches, a vivid coloured world opens up: paintings, sculptures and frescos. In The Duomo in Piazza dei Priori, you will have the chance to admire the famous Deposizione della Croce (Deposition from the Cross), Benozzo Gozzoli’s and Fra Bartolomeo’s works. The artistic itinerary will end with the visit of the Battistero.
However, you cannot leave the city without having taken a closer look to the alabaster beauties, a candid and translucent stone that has been worked here since Etruscan times. You will meet the artisans who still today preserve this ancient manufactural culture, creating vases and sculptures. At the end, in order to soak in the multitude of images that will be filling your eyes, you will have the chance to relax yourselves in a typical bar and you will taste the amazing local pecorino.
